How ADC Works

چکیده

Consider a sine wave analog signal like the red line in the image below. This particular sine wave has a DC bias of 7.5 Volts and an amplitude of +/7.5 Volts, creating a signal that oscillates between 0 and 15 Volts. An analog-to-digital converter discretizes the analog signal, yielding a digital number that represents the amplitude of the signal. The image below shows how the size wave might be discretized into 16 levels using a 4-bit ADC. Note that the discretization of the signal results in 'steps' being formed when the signal is traced, (an effect usually called aliasing).

Behavioral Modeling of Time-Interleaved ADCs using MATLAB

We introduce a behavioral MATLAB simulation of a time-interleaved ADC. The simulation includes the main error sources of a time-interleaved ADC and works with continuous-time input signals and continuous-time input filters. We clarify how to implement the signal generation and how to connect the continuous-time and the discrete-time part of the time-interleaved ADC with high calculation precisi...

Increase Dynamic Range of Sar Adcs Using Oversampling

In some previous articles general overviews of Δ-Σ and SAR (successive approximation register) ADCs, the techniques of oversampling as it relates to signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) and effective number of bits (ENOB) have been covered. The oversampling technique is most often used with the Δ-Σ ADC, but it is also useful with the SAR ADC. In this article we will dive in a bit deeper to see how this ...

A High Speed Analog to Digital Converter for Ultra Wide Band Applications

Over the past few years Ultra Wide Band (UWB) technology has taken the realms of communications circuit design to new levels. This paper demonstrates the design and simulation of a very high speed Flash Analog to Digital Converter (ADC) for UWB applications. The ADC was implemented in 90 nanometre (nm) CMOS design process. The converter works at an optimal sampling rate of 4.1 Gig-Samples per s...

Classification of Cerebral Lymphomas and Glioblastomas Featuring Luminance Distribution Analysis

Differentiating lymphomas and glioblastomas is important for proper treatment planning. A number of works have been proposed but there are still some problems. For example, many works depend on thresholding a single feature value, which is susceptible to noise. In other cases, experienced observers are required to extract the feature values or to provide some interactions with the system. Even ...

A 12 bit 76MS/s SAR ADC with a Capacitor Merged Technique in 0.18µm CMOS Technology

A new high-resolution and high-speed fully differential Successive Approximation Register (SAR) Analog to Digital Converter (ADC) based on Capacitor Merged Technique is presented in this paper. The main purposes of the proposed idea are to achieve high-resolution and high-speed SAR ADC simultaneously as well. It is noteworthy that, exerting the suggested method the total capacitance and the rat...
